Ervin Cook,'s Obituary
Each morning, Ervin Hoyle Cook, Sr. started his day with a prayer asking God what He needed him to do for anyone that day. He lived by the golden rule of “do unto others” and had the deepest faith in God. As a lifetime farmer he trusted his God to provide and raised his family to do the same. God and family were always first in his life. On April 9, 2012 Ervin left our land to be with his Father and Lord.
Born to the late Burgess Triplett Cook and Louetta Catherine Irvin Cook on July 14, 1917, Ervin was a lifetime member of Mount Zion United Methodist Church where he served on the Board of Stewardship including a term as Chairman. He also served on the planning committee for the Family Life Center and on the Building Committee. He served several terms on the Administrative Board and helped with grounds upkeep over his lifetime. He worked to get the first Mt.Zion Barbecue started and helped with many over the years. He was a faithful member of the J.C. Groce Sunday School Class including serving as President of the class.
As a dairy farmer, over the years he served as the Chair of the Biltmore Dairy Producers Association and was on the Board of Directors for the North Carolina Holstein Association serving as Vice President and President. He was instrumental in getting the Dairy Herd Improvement Association started in Mecklenburg County and a leader in the Gilead 4-H club for many years. He represented Mecklenburg County on the North Carolina Farm Bureau Dairy Board.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at Mount Zion UMC in Cornelius on Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at 4 o’clock. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the sanctuary. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Ervin is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Nancy Hucks Cook, and five children: Gaye Gough and husband Ken, of Eugene, Oregon; Doris Bradley of Greensboro, NC; E. H. Cook, Jr. and wife Cindy, of Huntersville, NC; Lois Peterson and husband Steve, of Boone, NC; and Henry L. Cook and wife Susan also of Huntersville, NC. In addition his legacy includes seven surviving grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He is now reunited with one grandchild and a son-in-law who preceded him in death and all of his brothers and sisters. We all rejoice in this happy reunion and thank God for His gift of everlasting life.
It is Ervin’s request that anyone wishing to honor him do so with a memorial to the Mount Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 19600 Zion Avenue, Cornelius, North Carolina, 28031.
