Ethel Gregory Rollins' Obituary
Ethel LaDonna Gregory Rollins, 85, of Charlotte, died Sunday, September 4, 2011, at Presbyterian Hospital with family by her side. The family would like to thank the Presbyterian Harris Hospice Unit for their diligent and loving support. She was born March 7, 1926, in Wilkes County to the late Rufus W. and Lundy C. Gregory. After moving to Charlotte in 1942 she married Dwight L. Rollins in April 1946. She worked for numerous companies and retired from IBM in 1993.
Ethel was preceded in death by her husband Dwight L. Rollins of 25 years; brothers Dave, Leo, Flake, Roger, Hoover and Tom; sisters Sally Mae, Mary and Lona.
Ethel is survived by her son Winfred and Toni Rollins of Mint Hill; daughters Trisha and Ron Tucker of Denver and Tracey Carter and Matt Crean of Rock Hill, SC; siblings Nancy and the late J.P. Stegall of Indian Trail, Billy and Shirley Gregory of Stallings, Bobby and Rachel Gregory of Statesville and sister in law Betty Lou Gregory of Millers Creek; grandchildren Shannon, Corey, Megan, Seneca, Debra, Joe, Steve and Karen; great grandchildren Alex, Auden, Carter, Lundy, Alana, Daniel, Kendra, Shawn and Gage; numerous nieces and nephews countless friends as well as her tail wagging companion Kya
Ethel is known for her integrity, strong passion and love for her family, friends and neighbors and her enduring work ethic. She will be remembered for her sense of humor and unconditional love for her own family and those who considered her a second mother.
A celebration of life service will be held at Christ Community Church, 16301 Old Statesville Road, Huntersville on Thursday, September 8 at 11am. The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the service. The committal will be held at the Marshville City Cemetery at 2:30 PM Thursday where she will be laid to rest beside her husband.
In remembrance of Ethel’s love for animals memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Charlotte, 2700 Toomey Avenue, Charlotte, NC 28203.
