Evelyn Pharr Wilson's Obituary
Evelyn Pharr Wilson, of Mooresville, Born July 12th 1935 to Ralph B Pharr and Norvell B Stutts in the Coddle Creek Township In Iredell County, passed away in her home on Lake Norman on Friday evening February 17th, 2017 with her beloved sister Maxine Pharr Dewitt holding her hand, and the rest of the family by her side. Evelyn married Mack Miller Wilson on December 31st, 1953; both were the age of 18, just a few weeks apart in birth. They were married by Revern J Kenton Parker at Centre Presbyterian Church in Mooresville, NC. They remained married for 60 years until Mack preceded her in death on July 24th, 2013.
Evelyn started out as an accountant at a premier firm in Charlotte. She never missed a day of work and was known for her quick and unparalleled accounting skills. Mack was a Top Paper Salesman working for Caskie –later International Paper . Mack and Evelyn had several still born children, and one was a boy whom Mack recounted towards the end of his own journey of cancer, and he named him Mack Miller Jr. Mack and Evelyn in turn, invested a lot of their time and energy into their beloved nieces and nephews Cheryl Mills, Kim and Mike Nichols and Greg and Mary Ervin, and later great nieces and nephews Ryan Thomas and Dezeree Jean Ervin , Mara Robin Fowler And Christie Leah Ervin, Dustin Mills, Josh, Jake Jesse and Lucas Nichols and Great-Great Nieces and nephews Anna Marie & Emily Catherine Fowler; Isabella Nicole and Julliano Cristoforo Niglio; Ariel Flame and Lauren Skye Ervin providing for them a life of fun and adventure, and memories they will treasure forever. Evelyn never learned to swim, but she was greatly fond of her boating time with nephew Ryan as the Captain, even when Evelyn had no energy left a few months ago she mounted the boat for one last trip, holding tight to her great-great niece Ariel and Ariel’s’ flaming red curls in the wind.
Mack and Evelyn were beloved members of Ramah Church for many years, singing in the choir, and serving in different capacities throughout their time as members. They attended family reunions regularly and treasured their friendship with Evelyn’s cousin Richard Newton, a local painter and his wife Betty Lou both preceding her in death. Mack and Evelyn both had a knack for property investments, and spent their retirement years piddling with a few homes. Evelyn also owned a large consignment shop in Mooresville, and loved collecting dolls and antique treasures. Mack and Evelyn spent their retirement days riding around in the golf cart, his arm always wrapped around her; fishing on their dock and putting together small family get-togethers. Mack and Evelyn always looked forward to their travel with best friends Ron and Ruth Ziska and their daughters Gay, Penny and Leslie, and these trips became their most treasured getaways throughout each year. Mack and Evelyn were indeed best friends and an example to us all of what a marriage represents, they fussed a little, but they loved more. We will remember Evelyn for her quick wit, short stories, jokes, love for lake life, eclectic clothes and jewelry, her night cap of wine, and so we leave you with Evelyn’s favorite Irish Blessing:
“May the road rise up to meet you, may the wind be ever at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face and the rain fall softly on your fields. And until we meet again, May God hold you in the hollow of his hand.”
The funeral service will be held at 3PM Wednesday, February 22 at Ramah Presbyterian Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Brian Copeland will officiate the service. Visitation will be one hour prior at the church.
Memorials may be made to Ramah Presbyterian Church.
