Evelyn Skidmore's Obituary
North Myrtle Beach SC
Evelyn Helms Skidmore, age 85, went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 16, 2018. She was the only child of the late Dorothy and Frank Helms. Evelyn’s life was dedicated to her family and friends. Her love for the Lord and the depth of her faith was evident in her daily life.
Evelyn grew up in Charlotte and graduated from Central High School. She attended Presbyterian School of Nursing before marrying Ray Skidmore in 1952. She and Ray were married for 54 years before his passing in 2005. They lived in Charlotte, Cornelius, Lenoir, and Little River, S.C. Evelyn lived in Huntersville, close to her daughter, for the past year. She was a devoted mother who raised her six children before taking an active role in the family businesses. While living in the North Myrtle Beach area, she volunteered with Hospice and other organizations. Evelyn was a charter member of Bible Fellowship Baptist Church, Little River S.C. She volunteered many years in the church nursery. She always enjoyed the water, whether it be boating on Lake Norman or on the sandy beaches of North Myrtle Beach.
Evelyn was an extraordinary matriarch to her family. She is survived by her daughter, Susan Mayes (Terry), and sons, Ray Skidmore Jr, Danny Skidmore (Lynn), Jeff Skidmore(Michelle), Tommy Skidmore (Roz), and Brad Skidmore (Tracey). Her legacy was enriched by her role as “Nana” to her treasured 16 grandchildren and 14 great- grandchildren.
Evelyn will be remembered for her warm smile, sense of humor and generous heart. She always put others before herself.
The family wishes to thank everyone for their kindness and prayers for their mother. Thank you to the wonderful health care professionals and caregivers at Carillon Assisted Living of Huntersville, where their mother felt loved and safe.
