Faye Long's Obituary
Faye P. Long, age 89, of Huntersville, passed away May 23, 2025, at Ranson Ridge Assisted Living in Huntersville, NC.
Faye was born in 1935 in Guilford County, and grew up in Gibsonville and Greensboro, North Carolina, daughter of the late Elise Gilliam Whiteley and the late Earl Holt Payne. She graduated from High Point Central High School and attended Greensboro Women’s College (now UNC-Greensboro), before getting married and starting a family.
Faye spent 30+ years as a Teaching Assistant, first in Randolph County, North Carolina, then at Long Creek Elementary School, where she retired in 1999. She was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. Faye had many interests over the years, including golf, gardening, and raising dogs. She was artistic and enjoyed many crafting activities. She was a member of the Long Creek Optimist Club and the affiliated Opti-Mrs. organization, serving as President a number of terms. She coached multiple cheerleading squads and was involved with the concession stand fundraising efforts.
Faye is preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Dan Long. Faye is survived by her children: Rusty Reynolds (Gershom) of Bishopville, SC; Sherri Green (Bill) of Charlotte, NC; Robby Long (Brenda) of Garner, NC, and Lisa Long Franklin (Brian) of Huntersville, NC; grandchildren Lauren, William, Andrew and Harrison Green, Alicia Long, Casey Hill, Daniel Reynolds, and Christopher Franklin; great-grandchildren Autumn Sill, Ashlyn Harper, Sawyer and Henry Green, and Noah and Abel Hill; brother Jim Whiteley (Sue); plus many loving nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her brother Ron Whiteley.
Services will be held on June 14, 2025, at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, 19600 Zion Ave, Cornelius, NC 28031. Visitation with the family will be at 1:00 pm, with the service at 2:00 pm, and refreshments following the service.
