Fern Marie Brazell's Obituary
Fern Marie Brazell, of Davidson, passed away on Saturday, December 1, 2018, at the age of 102. Fern was born on November 26, 1916, in Oakland, NE, and was the daughter of the late John and Elsie Servine. She was predeceased by her husband of 46 years, Dewey Edward Brazell, in 1988, and her two brothers, Melvin and John Servine.
Fern graduated from Waterbury High School in 1933 and then went on to graduate from nursing school in 1938. Her spirit of adventure led her to Chicago, IL, where she worked as a surgical nurse until she joined the Army Nurses Corps in 1941. She was then stationed in Atlanta where she met her future husband Dewey. After several moves, in 1954 Fern and Dewey settled in Bon Air, VA, where they raised their children and spent the rest of their married lives. In 2000 Fern moved to The Pines in Davidson to live near her family. Her life was centered on her family and friends. She will always be known as “Nana” and loved by all who knew her.
Left to cherish her memory are daughter, Barbara Brazell Ipock and her husband, Doug, of Charlotte; her son, Jim Brazell and his wife, Mary Lee, of Davidson; her grandchildren, Amy Schilder, Bellingham, WA; Emily Baroody (Tommy), Scottsdale, AZ; Michael Kirtley, Jacksonville, FL; Barbara Moore (Travis), Davidson; Tracy Baker (Matt), Wake Forest, and thirteen great-grandchildren. Fern is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews who loved to spend time with her.
Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service celebrating Fern’s life at 1:00PM, Saturday, December 8, 2018, at Davidson United Methodist Church, 233 Main Street, Davidson, NC 28036 with Pastor Shane Page officiating. The family will greet friends immediately following the service.
