Ferne Solomon Sauers' Obituary
Mrs. Ferne E. (Solomon) Sauers, 90, of Mooresville, NC, formerly of Matthews, NC, passed peacefully into eternal rest on November 14, 2016 at Olde Knox Commons in Huntersville, NC.
The daughter of Reno J. and Maude (Lantz) Solomon, she will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother. Born in New Berlin, PA on May 29, 1926, she was preceded in death by her parents and her loving husband of 64 years Kenneth L. Sauers.
Ferne was a 1944 graduate of Lewisburg High School in Lewisburg, PA. She married her high school sweetheart Kenny on June 16, 1947 in the New Berlin Reformed Church (now United Church of Christ). She always cherished and never forgot her Pennsylvania home.
Ferne was employed from 1958 until 1982 by the Lewisburg Area School District with her last position being administrative assistant to the District Director of Curriculum and Instruction. She took great pride in her work for the school, as well as the many lifelong friendships she made there and the young people she helped along the way.
Taking early retirement to move to North Carolina when her husband was transferred there, she became an active member of Morning Star Lutheran Church in Matthews and the AM Stars. In addition, she enjoyed traveling, reading a good book, collecting jewelry and spending time at their place on Lake Tillery. She remained an avid Penn State football fan until her passing. Ferne was a 55-year member of the Daughter’s of the American Revolution as well as a founding member of the New Berlin Heritage Association.
Ferne is survived by son Jeffrey and wife Mae of Mooresville, NC; grandson David T. Sauers of Bend, OR; granddaughter Rebecca Lantz Landreth, husband Tim and great-grandsons Bayne and Mason Landreth of Bel Air, MD; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank Ranson Ridge Assisted Living and Olde Knox Commons for their care and concern while Ferne was a resident.
A private family service will be held at a later date in New Berlin, PA where she will be interred next to her loving husband. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to one’s charity of choice.
James Funeral Home is serving the family.
