Flavio Sambo's Obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Flavio Sambo, a devoted husband, loving father, adoring grandfather, proud U.S. Army veteran, and beloved member of his community. Flavio passed away peacefully on November 21, 2024, at the age of 85, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born on January 24, 1939, in Lussingrande Yugoslavia, which is now known as Veli Losinj, Croatia.
Flavio’s early life was shaped by extraordinary challenges and resilience. During World War II, his family was displaced, and he experienced the hardships of life as a refugee. At a young age, Flavio relocated to Italy, where he grew up amid the rebuilding of a war-torn world. These formative years instilled in him an enduring strength, deep compassion, and an appreciation for peace and opportunity.
Flavio immigrated to the United States, embracing his new homeland with gratitude and a desire to serve. He proudly enlisted in the U.S. Army, where his courage, integrity, and dedication were evident in his honorable service. Protecting the freedoms he had so keenly come to value, Flavio exemplified the spirit of perseverance and patriotism.
After his military service, Flavio devoted himself to his greatest joys: his family and creating a life defined by love and integrity. As the cherished husband of Nilda for 59 wonderful years, Flavio was a cornerstone of strength and unwavering support. Together, they built a life filled with laughter, shared dreams, and cherished memories that will endure forever.
Flavio was a devoted father to Tamara, Paulette, Flavio Jr., and Richard and a proud grandfather to his nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild, who lovingly called him "Pop." Known for his kindness and a heart full of wisdom, he shared countless stories, and taught invaluable life lessons, leaving a legacy that will be carried forward in their hearts and lives.
His quiet strength, kind heart, and steadfast dedication to his family, friends, and community will never be forgotten. Flavio’s life was a testament to the values he cherished: love, service, and perseverance.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Nilda; his children, Tamara, Paulette (Dennis), Flavio Jr. (Suzanne), and Richard (Jennifer); his nine grandchildren; one great grand child; his sister Francesca, brother Antonio, and a wide circle of extended family and friends. Flavio was preceded in death by his parents, Francesco and Giovanna, whose memory he always honored.
A celebration of Flavio’s remarkable life will be announced at a later date.
Rest peacefully, dear Pop. Your unwavering love and sacrifices will remain in the hearts of all who knew and cherished you.
"Well done, good and faithful servant."
