Floreine Burt's Obituary
Floreine Farless Burt, 97, of Davidson, died April 23, 2016. She was born April 18, 1919 to Lonnie Edward Farless and Fannie Lawrence Farless in Bertie County, NC. She was educated in public schools and graduated from Meredith College in 1941 as a teacher. She was married to Ralph Lea Burt, Sr. in April, 1942. She taught school while he was serving overseas. After the war she moved with her husband to Charlotte in 1945. They moved to Lake Norman in 1969. Flo was a sixteen year resident of The Pines in Davidson, North Carolina.
Flo was preceded in death by her husband, a sister, Clio Hawkins, and two brothers, Leonard Farless and Edward Farless.
Flo is survived by her children, Sally Burt Gudger of Denver, NC, Susan Burt Cherry and her husband, William S. Cherry, Jr. of Raleigh, NC, and Ralph Lea Burt, Jr and his wife Robin Howell Burt of Huntersville, NC, 6 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren.
She is lovingly remembered for her devotion to her family and lifelong friends, her joy in all gardening, and her lifetime of service to 3 Methodist Churches in the area. Beginning with her children and extending to her companions at The Pines, she taught everyone the pleasure of sharing the challenge provided by difficult jigsaw puzzles. She was an avid reader and loved her bridge groups that met several times a week.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be given to Hospice of Lake Norman.
Interment will be private at Mt. Zion Community Cemetery.
The service to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, April 27 at Davidson U.M.C. with visitation to follow the service.
Funeral arrangements are by the James Funeral Home in Huntersville.
