Floyd "Ink" Blackwell's Obituary
Floyd Lewis Blackwell (Ink) 94 of Cornelius, NC passed away peacefully at home on April 24, 2024. He was born on February 4, 1930 to William and Hazel Blackwell. Ink was a 1948 graduate of Tuscarawas High School in Ohio and Mt SAC in California. He held state high jump records while in school. He then served in the US Coast Guard and while serving was asked to try out for the Olympics.
He worked for IBM in California and then transferred to Charlotte. Later he worked for Industrial Dynamics in Davidson and was the owner of Ye Olde Campground and Marina in Huntersville. He was the owner and property manager of many rental homes in the area. He was a member of Abundant Life Foursquare Church in Mooresville.
Ink loved his family and spending time with them on the lake and helping them with home projects. Being a "jack of all trades", you could count on him to fix everything. He was a very generous man who would go out of his way to help others. With his knowledge and experience he helped many move and renovate homes. He loved visits from family and friends, traveling, sweets and sports, especially Duke Basketball. He served as a college basketball referee. He competed in the state of NC Sr Olympics in tennis. He loved playing tennis, chess, checkers, cornhole, and any other game someone thought they could beat him at.
He was also known for his "Ink isms" When asked how much something was, he would say "Twice as much as half". Ask how he was feeling and he would say "With my hands".
Ink is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 68 1/2 years, Elizabeth Donaldson Blackwell of the home. Children include Cindy (EH) Cook-Huntersville, Patti Blackwell-Cornelius, Terri Blackwell-Mooresville, and Barry Blackwell-Mooresville.
Grandchildren include Mandy (Jacob) Robinson-Denver, Lael (Britni) Rudisill-Rosamond, CA, Tiffany (Jon) Holbrook-Lilburn, GA, Anna (Justin) Clark-Concord, Shaul Rudisill-Huntersville, TJ Skidmore-Sherrills Ford, Zoe Young-Cornelius, Darla (Russell) Gabriel-Lincolnton, Ranier Young-Cornelius, Iyesha Barlow-Downey, CA, Brandon Blackwell-Mooresville, Kristi (Matt) Wright-Charlotte, Kelli Bowman-Mooresville, and Kevin Cook-Lincolnton.
Great Grandchildren include Davis Robinson, Riggins Robinson, Miriam Holbrook, Hank Holbrook, Skyler Suddreth, Micah Gabriel, Tristen Gabriel, Madison Clark, and Isaiah Clark.
He was preceded in death by his parents William and Hazel Blackwell, daughter Connie Blackwell Rudisill, sisters Myrna Moore, Nedra Baron, and Joann Noel, and brothers Don Blackwell and Pat Blackwell.
There will be a visitation on Sunday, April 28, 2024 from 2-3 pm followed by the service at 3 pm at Abundant Life Foursquare Church, 119 Foursquare Road, Mooresville. Interment with graveside military honors will follow the service at Mt Zion Methodist Church Community Gardens, 19600 Zion Ave, Cornelius, NC.

The funeral service will be held at 3 PM Sunday, April 28 at Abundant Life in Mt. Mourne, NC. Visitation will be 2-3 prior. Interment will follow at Mt. Zion Community Cemetery.
