Frances "Jackie" Jacqueline Rushing's Obituary
Frances Jacqueline Christopher Rushing, known to all as Jackie, age 92, of Davidson, NC, passed away on April 8, 2026.
Born on March 13, 1934, in Athens, AL, she was the daughter of the late Parmenus Jackson and Lura Frances Christopher. Jackie graduated from Auburn University in 1954 and enjoyed two fulfilling careers—first as a teacher and later as a real estate agent.
Jackie was an avid sailor, racing out of All Seasons Marina and the Lake Norman Yacht Club before spending five years living aboard a sailboat with her late husband, Dykes, cruising the Intracoastal Waterway and the Bahamas. She loved reading, volunteering at the library, Davidson Elementary School, and WDAV, and above all, traveling the world. A lifelong learner, Jackie delighted in exploring new cultures and seeking out knowledge wherever she went.
Jackie is preceded in death by her husband, Edward Dykes Rushing, husband of 53 years and her brother, Phillip Nelson Christopher. She is survived by her brother, James Jackson Christopher; her children, Shannon (Mike) Rushing Oruska, Fran (Bruce) Rushing Petzold, Christie (Eric) Rushing Davies, and David (Mary) Dykes Rushing; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces, nephews and friends.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the caring staff of The Pines at Davidson and VIA Health Partners | Hospice & Palliative Care for their gentle and loving care.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to any of the funds at The Pines at Davidson or WDAV.
A memorial service will be held at The Pines at Davidson on Sunday, April 19, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. The family will greet friends immediately following the service. A private burial will take place at a later date.
