Francis Melvin Kerns
“Melvin”
Mr. Kerns, 87, of Charlotte, died April 14, 2012 at the Levine & Dickson Hospice House. He was born on September 24, 1924 in Mecklenburg County to the late Harper Craven and Bertha Alexander Kerns. He worked for 30 years at Kroehler Manufacturing in Quality Control. Melvin was a longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the Yountz Hough Sunday School class. In addition, he was a member of the Charlotte Moose Lodge in Derita. Melvin loved his family and was a true people person. He was an avid bird watcher and loved the lake and teaching the sport of water skiing. He will be greatly missed by his family.
He is survived by his sons, Larry and wife Pam of Denton, Mike and wife Linda of Henderson and Rick and wife Donna of Mooresville; daughter Wanda Davis and husband Neal of Charlotte; brothers Charles of Concord and Harold of Cornelius; 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Frances Scercy Kerns.
Memorials may be made to the Levine & Dickson Hospice House, 11900 Vanstory Dr., Huntersville, NC 28078 or Trinity UMC Cemetery Fund, 6230 Beatties Ford Rd., Charlotte, NC 28216.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at Trinity United Methodist Church with Rev. Wade Ogle and Rev. Shelton Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-3:00 prior in the family life center.
