Frank Cimino's Obituary
Franklin John Cimino, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, died on April 6, 2024 in Huntersville, NC, at the age of 86. During his last weeks he was surrounded by his family, who will miss him dearly.
Franklin was born on June 21, 1937, in Dobbs Ferry, New York to the late Paul and Millie Cimino. He grew up with two sisters, Marion and Nettie, and a brother John. He attended Ardsley Central High School (GED) leaving in 1954 to enlist in the United States Airforce at the age of 17. He proudly served 9 years 5 months in the United States Airforce from 1954 to 1964.
The Airforce allowed him to see the world and he was stationed in many different countries including Iceland, Greenland, Germany, and Japan to name a few. Franklin headed back to Ardsley, New York after leaving the Airforce where he met his future wife, Carolyn. They married in October 1966, and moved to White Plains, New York where he took a job with IBM in Large Systems Planning. He worked for IBM in New York and eventually moved to North Carolina. He was a dedicated professional and worked for IBM for 25 years before his retirement in 1992.
Franklin and Carolyn had two children, Paul and Richard who were the joy of their lives. To his wife, he was loving and caring. He lovingly referred to her as his “bride” and he cherished the moments they spent together and was thankful for her support and care over the years. They had great times vacationing especially on the many cruises they took in retirement. To his children, Franklin was a loving and supportive father and was very proud of his sons accomplishments. He helped coach their sports teams and was always in attendance at their games and important life events. To his grandchildren, he was the great comic. He showed them the quality of a great “one liner” and always made them laugh. He was a very private man but enjoyed spending time with his family, especially on holidays. He had a passion for history, cross word puzzles, and had an impeccable sense of humor. It was a rare day that he did not have a cross word puzzle in his lap and his “one liners” will live on in family lore for generations to come. He was a man who valued hard work and honesty and he made sure to instill those values in his children and grandchildren.
Franklin is survived by his wife of 58 years, Carolyn Branch Cimino; his children, Paul (Carol), Richard (Wendi); and his grandchildren Cole, Winston, Jeremy, Gretchen, and Chelsea. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation Carolinas Chapter or to a local Hospice organization.
