Frank Penninger's Obituary
Franklin McKinley Penninger "Frank", 82, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2013. He was born September 20, 1931 in Charlotte to Jay and Etta Penninger.
A graduate of Harding High School, he also attended Presbyterian College. He served in the US Air Force during the Korean War and retired as owner of Penninger’s Flowers & Gifts in Huntersville. He manifested his love of music in a lifelong membership in the American Guild of Organists (AGO) and as a member of the Oratorio Singers of Charlotte.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Lorraine Williams Penninger; sons Randy, David, and Jon (Joy); grandchildren Jason, Jordon, Christopher, Gabriela, Sammy, and James (to whom he was affectionately known as “Paw P”); and nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Van Penninger, Sr.
A graveside service will take place at 10 AM Monday, September 30 at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, where he served as organist and choir director for 25 years. A service to celebrate the life of Frank Penninger will be held at 11AM on Monday at James Funeral Home, 10520 Arahova Drive, Huntersville, with the Rev. DiDi Wayland officiating. A reception will follow in the James Funeral Home Community Room.
