Frederick Payne's Obituary
Frederick Bowen Payne, 87, of Huntersville passed away peacefully on Friday, July 14, 2017. A native of Charlotte, Fred was born on October 17, 1929 to the late Frederick Bryan Payne and Ruth Fisher Payne. Fred was a veteran of the United States Army having served from 1951 - 1953, including a tour in Germany, and he worked at the N.C. Department of Transportation, retiring after 40 years of service. Deeply loved by a wide circle of family and friends, Fred enjoyed retirement and spending time right out his back door fishing on Lake Norman and tending to his beautiful azaleas and dogwoods. He loved to laugh, and all of his friends and family enjoyed his wonderful sense of humor. Fred was a long-time member of Bethel Presbyterian Church in Cornelius, N.C. and had the most beautiful spirit that shined through in everything he did. His adoring wife and his two sons were his pride and joy.
Fred is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years Mary King Payne; his son Frederick Bowen Payne, Jr. and his wife Caren of Fayetteville, N.C., his son Robert Bryan Payne of the home, and his brother Samuel Norcom Payne and his wife Melba of Charlotte. He is predecessed by his sister Patricia Payne Hinson of Surfside Beach, S.C.
A memorial of Fred's life will be held at Bethel Presbyterian Church at 2PM Saturday, August 26 with visitation to follow in the family life center.
