Gary E. Kendig's Obituary
Gary Ellis Kendig, 72, of Huntersville, NC passed away February 16, 2023 at home. He was born on April 6, 1950 in Windber, Pennsylvania to the late Wilbur and Genevieve Kendig.
Gary was a man of God and a dedicated husband of 46 years. He was a beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and a servant to all who were in need. Gary was a wise and patient problem solver who loved to build, fix, and create. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown and then joined AmeriCorps VISTA. After spending time as a bilingual educator in Puerto Rico, he went on to have a career in marketing, graphic design and real estate. He was truly passionate about language, art, music and the outdoors. Reading the dictionary, collecting, traveling, white-water rafting, hiking and fishing were some of his favorite past times. He was an athlete and avid sports fan who rooted for the Steelers and the underdog. His quick wit and willingness to help will be greatly missed. Gary loved wholeheartedly and his spirit lives on through his family and all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife Arlene Grace Kendig; daughter, Emily Foley (Flint) of Huntersville, NC; sons Benjamin of Wentzville, and Zachary (Adrienne) of St. Louis, MO; siblings Fred, David, Thomas, and Pamela; grandchildren, Zayda, Easton, and Case.
Memorials may be made to Assurance United Methodist Church and the The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, February 25, 2023 at Assurance U.M.C. in Huntersville, NC. The family will receive friends before the service from 1:00 – 2:00.
