Gary Daniel St. John's Obituary
Gary Daniel St. John, 69 of Huntersville, N.C. went to be with the Lord on January 10, 2023, while at Levine and Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville, N.C. His wife, father-in-law, and a dear friend were by his side at the time of passing. Gary fought a courageous battle with multiple cancers and serious illnesses since 2015.
Gary was born in Wilmington, N.C. on September 24, 1953, to the late Carl Hembree St. John, Jr. and Louise Bonham St. John. He was an honor student at Winyah Academy in Georgetown, S.C. and received a master’s degree from Appalachian State in Accounting/Finance. While at Appalachian he enjoyed skiing and playing on the soccer team. He was captain of the team his senior year. Gary was retired from Kee Auto Top Manufacturing Co. where he worked as a plant supervisor. In conjunction with Kee he was a residential real estate investor for several years. He was very dedicated to his job and loved the people he worked with at Kee.
Gary was a man of faith who loved the Lord with all his heart. In earlier years he was an active member at Hickory Grove Baptist Church in Charlotte, N.C. While there he taught 1st and 2nd grade Sunday School and worked at Samaritan’s Purse during the Christmas season. He always enjoyed getting gifts for underprivileged children at Christmas. He was currently a partner at Grace Covenant Church, Cornelius, N.C. Before coming down with cancer, Gary could be found at church serving in a number of areas – communion, ushering, Grace Feeding Grace along with a number of activities and events. He was passionate about sports, especially soccer. In his younger days he enjoyed hunting with his father. One of his favorite pastimes was being with his beloved dog Dylan. These two were quite the pair going for long walks at Jetton Park on Saturday morning. He was an avid reader and loved studying the Bible.
In addition to his parents Gary is preceded in death by his sister, Donna St. John Baker. He is survived by his loving wife, Karen Evans St. John; father-in-law, Erman Evans; mother in-law, Betty Evans; and many loving cousins, nieces, and nephews.
His celebration of Life Service and Visitation will be Saturday January 14, 2023, at Grace Covenant Church- Cornelius Campus. A public visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. with the service at 11:00 a.m. The interment will be immediately following the service at Mt. Zion Community Cemetery in Cornelius. Pastor Farrell Lemmings and Pastor Paul Turbedsky will be presiding.
