Gone Fishing in Heaven
As I awoke today and felt the morning sun. I looked around and saw that you had gone.A tear ran down my cheek as I found myself here on earth alone.
I walked down to the riverside where I knew you’d surely be,
fishing pole in hand and wondering why you'd ever leave without me.
I searched along the shore for miles and found nothing but memories there,
All the good times and how you always cared.
I found a great spot to cast in a line and stop and rest for a few,
OLD MAN do you see this, can you really see this view!
I thought of all the memories we made doing this together, you taught me more important things than I ever
learned in a class, all while just chasing the big one beneath the water's glass.
As the day went by, I couldn't catch a bite. I thought I felt your presence there, and I prayed that I was right.
Another tear fell from my face, as I looked around for you. It was just another fond memory I will always hold onto.
I know you've gone to heaven now and you're surely fishing there,
With the wind of the Angels wings blowing through your thin silver hair.
So as you search for the perfect fishing hole along the golden shores,
Save a place and wait for me, my journey down here just isn't quite o’er.
I'll be down here telling stories of us and how the big ones got away, but there are many other reasons why I must stay.
I'll be down here taking care of Momma, as you would, while you are away, making sure to tell your grandkids about the man I miss so dearly this day.
As I lay my head down at the end of this day, I'll not forget to bow my head knowing you are never, but one short prayer away.
In Loving Memory of:
MY OLD MAN
