George "Marshall" Barnette's Obituary
George Marshall Barnette, Sr of Huntersville, NC passed away Monday, August 22, 2022.
Mr. Barnette is survived by his wife of 57 plus years, Deeanne Enders Barnette, their children Marshall Jr. (Alecia), Jr. and Shari (Jeremy) Benfield, grandchildren Doug Anderson, Jr. and Allison Anderson, Chase and Aiden Barnette and great grandchildren Chance and Amelia Anderson.
Funeral Services will be held at Hopewell Presbyterian Church, Huntersville, NC, Sunday, August 28, 2022, with visitation from 2-3 pm and services at 3 pm. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Marshall graduated from North Mecklenburg High School where he was active in football, basketball, and baseball all 3 years. In 1957 the North Meck Rebels won the State Baseball Championship with him being pitcher. In 1957 he signed with the Washington Senators organization and played minor league baseball in Superior, Nebraska where he met Deeanne.
Several years he coached little league, Legion, and 15-16 years old baseball teams. The 1984 Croft 15–16-year-old won NC State baseball and went to Lake Okeechobee, FL where they placed 3rd in the nation.He was a truck driver, attended Thomas King Refrigeration School in Minnesota and drove tractor trailers as a cross county driver. He also built ‘55, ’56 and ’57 Chevrolets. Baseball, Family, and rebuilding cars were his greatest pleasures.
