George Hoppe's Obituary
George Erich Hoppe, 91, of Winnipeg, Canada died peacefully on December 12, 2025 at the home of his son and daughter-in-law in Cornelius, NC. He was born on August 22, 1934 in Lodz, Poland to Erich and Olga Hoppe.
George preceded his parents in immigrating to Canada at the age of 17. On arriving in Canada, he went to work as a farm-hand for several years until his parents and older brother were able to immigrate to Canada also. The family attended Mission Baptist Church throughout their lives and George was active in both leadership roles and in the brass band.
George married Gisela Bulmann in 1959 in Winnipeg. They were able to celebrate 63 years of marriage before Gisela’s passing in 2022.
George worked for a short time as a professional butcher before pursuing opportunities in the construction industry. He had an accomplished career in commercial construction and was the go-to handy-man for family, many friends and acquaintances until the time of his retirement at age 75.
Survivors include his son Ron Hoppe and wife Sherry of Cornelius, NC, daughter Lori Rath and husband Tom of Calgary, Canada and grand-son Stefan Rath of Kitimat, Canada and his older brother Siegfried and wife Barbara of Kelowna, Canada.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00pm Friday, January 9, 2026 at Lake Norman Baptist Church, 7921 Sam Furr Road, Huntersville, NC.
