George Michael Sweeney's Obituary
George Michael "Mike" Sweeney, of Huntersville, NC passed away on Friday, February 12, 2021 at the age of 73. He died peacefully in his home surrounded by his close family.
Mike was born on May 24, 1947 in Berwyn, IL. He was the son of the late George Warner, Jr. and Mary Lillis O'Hearn Sweeney. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, John R. "Jack" Sweeney.
Mike grew up in Boston, MA. It is there where he met his wife Diane and their first child Leigh was born. His role with IBM moved the family to the Washington, DC area, where they later welcomed their daughter Kerry into the world.
Mike moved with his family to North Carolina, where after a long and successful career with IBM, retired. He welcomed this new pace of life. Warm weather, Panthers football and boat cruises on Lake Norman suited him well.
Mike’s greatest love was his family, his wife, two daughters, son-in-law and beloved grandchildren all whom he was blessed to live nearby. Times spent together laughing, enjoying good food, playing games and watching movies together brought him no greater joy.
