George Sarandus Trakas Sr.'s Obituary
George Sarandus Trakas Sr., 89, of Charlotte, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at his home on May 24, 2026, exactly as he wished, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born in Gaston County, George spent his life building strong roots in the Charlotte area, where he became well known for his hard work, determination, and dedication to both his family and his community.George was a faithful member of Saint Mark’s Catholic Church and proudly served his country in the National Guard. In his younger years, he was known as the best baseball player in his class at West Mecklenburg High School. He later became a respected business owner in the Charlotte area and was admired for his incredible work ethic and sharp mind. George had a great love for the stock market and could often be found keeping up with the markets or working on one of his many business ventures. Above all, he was a man who valued strength, perseverance, and providing for those he loved.
He was preceded in death by his son, George Trakas Jr.
George is survived by his children, Bernadette Trakas Woodard, John Trakas, Edward Joseph Trakas, and Randy Lankford; his sister, Marie McCord; and 33 grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will continue to carry on his memory and legacy.
Visitation services will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2026, from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at James Funeral Home, with funeral services immediately following at 11:00 AM at the same location. Burial services will follow at 1:30 PM at Hollywood Cemetery. Pastor Todd Marlow of Hope Community Church of Metrolina will officiate the services.
