Geraldine "Gerri" O'Loughlin's Obituary
OCTOBER 4, 1921- JULY 11, 2018
Geraldine Long O'Loughlin, age 96, passed away peacefully at Abernethy Laurels in Newton, NC., with her devoted husband, Martin at her side. She was blessed with a long and full life.
Gerri was born in the town of McRoberts in eastern Kentucky. As a young adult she moved with her family to Dayton, Ohio, where she later met and married Martin A. O'Loughlin who at that time was serving in the United States Army during World War II. They were completely devoted to each other for over seventy-four (74) years. Initially the couple lived in Dayton, Ohio, but after several years moved to Kettering, Ohio, where they resided until late 2017, when they relocated to the retirement community of Abernethy Laurels in North Carolina to be closer to family members.
Gerri worked her entire career at First National Bank in downtown Dayton, Ohio. For many years she was active in the Order of the Eastern Star and was involved in many activities of the Dayton Shrine with her husband, Martin who became a 32nd Degree Mason. She was an early member of the Miami Valley Kidney Foundation which raised funds to promote kidney disease research and assist people requiring renal transplantation and life-saving hemodialysis.
She will always be remembered as a loving Aunt by her three nephews; an aunt who was ALWAYS happy to spend time and create lasting memories with them.
Geraldine was the daughter of Grover Kelly Long and Edna Day Long. She was preceded in death by her dear sister, Mary (Kay) Schroeder and brother-in-law, Milton Schroeder of Cornelius, NC.
She is survived by her husband, Martin O'Loughlin; nephews; Dr. Terry Schroeder and wife, Paulette of Denver, NC.; Dr. Stephen Schroeder and wife, Margie of Ijamsville, MD.; and Philip Schroeder and wife, Debbie of Stanley, NC. She is also survived by first cousins, Judy Witt and husband Bradley; Charlotte Dombroskas; and Brenda Robertson and husband, Jere, all of Mt. Sterling, KY.
