Gloria Jean (Rogers) Mcree's Obituary
Jean McRee, died peacefully at the age of 86 at Novant Health Huntersville Medical Center in Huntersville, NC on November 5, 2025.
Jeannie, as many knew her, was born in Syracuse, NY on October 12, 1939, and was one of three daughters of Dr. Frederick “Ken” Rogers and Mabel Lennox Rogers, who lived in the Syracuse, NY area.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband John McRee, who passed away on February 26, 2024. Jean and John passed along their love of family to their 5 children. John Kenyon McRee, Mary-Beth (Rick) Rumble, Kathleen Susan (Al) Bedrosian, Elizabeth “Betsy” Ann McNaught, and Gary Allen McRee. John and Jean raised their children as Christians and loved their church family who always welcomed the family by saving a whole row at Church as all 7 hustled in, usually a little late!
Jean loved the outdoors! When she wasn’t taking her pack of children through the woods on a winter hike, she was riding her horse or happily mucking stalls at the barn. She had a habit of finding orphaned animals and bringing them home, adding to the growing population of the family pets including cats, dogs, bunnies, and parakeets. She was also an avid tennis player and took up golf later in life. A true all-around athlete, adventurer, and animal lover!
After a career as a stay-at-home Mom, Jean went back to school to obtain a Surgical Technician Certification. She loved the people and her work at St. Joseph’s hospital in Syracuse and always enjoyed sharing colorful stories from the operating room that made us squirm! Jean had a great sense of humor!
Jean’s greatest joys were spending time with her dogs, and her grandchildren.
Jean is survived by her many beautiful grandchildren: Alex (Bryan) Strelow, Matthew (Brittany) McRee, Natalie Riebel, Samuel Riebel, Annabel (Daniel) Jackson, Kaitlyn Kilts, Jack Rumble, and Elizabeth Rumble, …and precious great-grandchildren: Penelope Strelow, Emmeline Strelow, Beckett Strelow, Mabel Strelow, and Wyatt McRee.
Jeanie will be deeply missed for her bright smile, great one-liners, competitive spirit, fun energy, and big hugs!
Services will be planned at a later date.
May she rest in peace.
