Golden Kirk's Obituary
Golden Martin Kirk, 89, of Huntersville died February 19, 2022. She was born on July 24, 1932 in Labrador, Canada to the late Frank and Selina Martin.
Clum, as she was known by everyone, was cheerful, pragmatic, and generous. She was an entertaining storyteller and was especially fond of tales from her childhood growing up in Newfoundland. She loved connecting with people, visiting for hours with friends and family or even complete strangers, conversations that were constantly punctuated by joy and laughter. She brought joy to all the knew her through her words, her cooking, and her charity, actively involved in Circle groups at church and the Navy League. She met Jim Kirk when he was stationed in Argentia, Newfoundland, married him, and he brought her to the US, eventually settling in North Carolina upon retirement. She loved him dearly for their 35 years of marriage and often spoke of how much she missed him throughout the rest of her life, playfully cursing him for leaving her too soon. She is finally reunited with the man she loved.
After his passing, she devoted her time to helping others and doting on her grandchildren. Clum was loved by all who knew her and our lives are enriched by her memory.
Survivors include her daughter, Angela Ward and husband Carl of Huntersville and grandchildren, Kirk and Selina. Her husband James preceded her in death.
The graveside service will be held at 11 AM Saturday, February 26 at Mallard Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Visitation will follow. (Please park on church side and be ready to walk over together at 10:55 AM)
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in memory of Clum Kirk to Mallard Creek Presbyterian Church or The American Heart Association.
James Funeral Home of Huntersville is serving the family.
