Gordon "Kent" Hefner's Obituary
Gordon "Kent" Hefner, 71, of Cornelius, NC passed away on May 20, 2022 at the Peninsula Family Care Home in Cornelius.
Gordon Kent Hefner was born in Charlotte, North Carolina to Jimmy Ellison Hefner and Louella Allen Hefner on March 30, 1951. He was preceded in death by his father, Jimmy Ellison Hefner. He is survived by his mother, Louella Hefner, his brother, Larry Hefner, and his sister, Sylvia White.
Gordon (who was often called Kent or Bird) grew up in the Derita area and graduated from North Mecklenburg High School in 1969. At the age of 18, he joined the United States Army and was deployed to Vietnam to serve in the war there. He was sent home before his tour was over due to illness and subsequently, was discharged from the Army as a disabled veteran, Sadly, thereafter, Gordon struggled with a debilitating mental illness that impacted his life immensely, Throughout it all, Gordon never complained and everyone that was involved in his care fell in love with him. He was sweet and so appreciative. He loved Jesus, being a Veteran of the US Army, eating, drinking coffee, race cars, motorcycles, jewelry (particularly crosses and watches), hearing about fishing and hunting, presents, music, the Bible, and family. He developed and maintained a strong faith with whoever would listen. On his final day, he told his family that he was going to heaven and , later in the evening, he did. Gordon was loved, supported and included by his family throughout his life. He was so special and will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him!
A graveside service with military honors will be held on Monday, May 23, 2022, at 12:00 PM, at Sharon Memorial Park Cemetery in Charlotte, NC.
