As a young man of 26 I left my comfort zone in rural Ohio and moved far away to Poughkeepsie, NY to start a career at IBM. My first day at work I was nervous, anxious, unsure, worried and wondering how I would cope with this new environment.
Not to worry. I was introduced to my new manager - Dutch Mietz. Yes, Dutch was my first manager at IBM. Right away he made me feel right at home and welcome. Dutch was so easy going and friendly yet so professional and competent.
Most of my concerns melted away in that first day. He was a very good manager and did a great job of helping me acclimate to this new environment. Thanks to Dutch for helping me launch my career.
Our families soon became best friends and that friendship has lasted to this day - 58 years later.
A very good man.
