Grady Ross Nichols,'s Obituary
Grady Ross Nichols, 70, of Denver, NC, passed away Saturday, January 28, 2017 at Novant Presbyterian Hospital surrounded with family by his side. Grady was a native of Matthews, North Carolina, and spent his early years helping his family operate their dairy farm on Sam Newell Road, a road named after his grandfather.
Grady was a successful business man, and up until the time of his passing, spent his entire working career at Metrolina Sprinkler Company in Charlotte, NC. He had a great passion for his work in the fire protection sprinkler business. His co-workers and employees were like family to him. Grady will be remembered for his contagious smile, funny jokes, his love for his family, and his strong faith in God.
Survivors include his wife, Jerri Nichols, of Denver, NC; daughter and son-in-law, Stefhanie Nichols Howe and George “Trip” Howe of Charlotte, NC; son and daughter-in-law, Ross and Jennifer Nichols of Greenville, SC; step-son, Scott Yeakley of Surfside, SC; step-son and daughter-in-law Jeff and Sally Yeakley of Greensboro, NC; grandchildren Oates Howe, Harrison Howe, Bruce Nichols; Jordan Yeakley, Laura Yeakley, Josh Yeakley, Daniel Yeakley, and great-granddaughter Vivian Yeakely; brother and sister-in-law Robert and Susan Nichols of Waxhaw, NC; sister-in-law Sara Nichols of Sumter, SC; sister-in-law Gondi Chilton and husband Lance Chilton of Salisbury, NC; sister-in-law Juanita Gensel and husband Larry Gensel of Clayton, NC; and, numerous nieces and nephews. Grady is predeceased by his parents Earl and Macie Nichols of Matthews, NC, brother Bruce Nichols of Raleigh, NC; and, his beloved cat, Puff.
Friends and family are invited to a service to honor Grady’s life on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at 2pm Calvary Church at 5801, Pineville-Matthews Road, Charlotte, NC 28226. Visitation will be prior to the service at 1pm. Donations may be made to the Humane Society of Charlotte, 2700 Toomey Avenue, Charlotte, NC 28203 and the American Diabetes Association, 1300 Baxter Street, #150, Charlotte, NC 28204.
