Gregory Charles Dunkle's Obituary
Gregory Charles Dunkle [Greg] “slipped the surly bonds of earth” passing peacefully at his Denver NC home with his loving wife at his side Sunday, January 26th after a brief but valiant battle with cancer.
Private services will be held Friday, January 31st at James Funeral Home in Huntersville; Minister Harold Hudson officiating. Masses in his honor will be held at Saint John Neumann Catholic Churches in Lilburn, Georgia and Charlotte, NC.
Greg was born in New York, New York to Kenneth and Helen Dunkle on July 26, 1951. Attending the University of Colorado in Boulder, Greg graduated in 1968 with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. He recently retired from Duke Energy Corporation after a 40+ year career doing what he was passionate about, Nuclear Quality Surveillance. During his career, Greg was fortunate to have travelled the world.
Greg was a devoted husband and loving father who in recent years was happiest boating with family and friends on Lake Norman, dance-offs with his grandchildren, telling corny jokes, sharing his knowledge and love of classic rock music, playing pickle ball with his friends at 3 Cherry Way, and watching sports on TV.
Greg was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Helen Dunkle, and is survived by Kathryn, his wife of 42 years and their children: Jennifer L. Wilmer of Aurora, Colorado, Kenneth A. Dunkle, Charlotte, North Carolina, and Gregory C. Dunkle II of Columbia, SC; his sister and brother-in-law Stacy and Michael Denning of Garner, North Carolina, five grandchildren: Abendigo, Elijah, Joshua, Laila, and Caleb Wilmer, many nieces, nephews across the country, and his precocious Yorkshire Terrier, Belle.
