Hal Thomas Abernethy's Obituary
Mr. Hal Thomas Abernethy, 85, of Charlotte, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, April 5, 2016.
Hal was a very active member of Northside Baptist Church and the Homemakers Sunday School Class. He served as a deacon, usher, Sunday school teacher, and was the first to be awarded the church’s Father Of The Year. Hal was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during the Korean War. He was the owner and operator of Hal Abernethy Inc. and later a partner of Hal Abernethy Contracting. Hal’s passions included traveling, gardening, fishing, and most of all spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents; Arlie and Evelyn Abernethy, brother, Glenn Abernethy, Sr., and a sister, Arline Greene
Mr. Abernethy is survived by his wife of 58 years, June Abernethy, sons; Jeff Abernethy (Kim), Tommy Abernethy (Melanie), daughters; Jan Roland (Brent), Renee Furman (David), sisters; Fran Privette, Kay Wiggins, brother, Tony Abernethy all of Charlotte, nine grandchildren; Michelle Clark (Frank), Stefanie LaPoint (Jason), Lauren Gault (Ben), Chad Abernethy (Bethany Cottings), Kyle Abernethy (Tori), Kurt Abernethy (Bryce Freeland), Brooke Roland, Cameron Roland, Alexa Furman, and great-grandchildren; Layna Clark, Elyse Clark, and Noah Gault.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, April 8, 2016 at Northside Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Thursday at the church.
