Harold Boyd Little's Obituary
Harold Boyd Little, of Cornelius, went home to be with his Lord at 10:45 a.m. on June 29, 2011 at Levine & Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville, NC.
Born May 14, 1926 in Mecklenburg County, Mr. Little is a son of the late Daniel Durham and Lois McCloud Little. He was a graduate of Cornelius High School and served in the Navy during World War II as Seaman First Class on the USS Rogers.
Mr. Little was also the owner of Davidson Ice & Fuel Company. After he “retired” he enjoyed making sure that the boys stayed in line at Archer’s Towing Service in Davidson, as well as helping to keep the coffee pot empty at Cashions Quik Stop.
Mr. Little was the driving force behind development of the Cornelius Veterans Monument. An active member of the community, he served his hometown faithfully as Town Commissioner (1961-1967), Planning Board member (1970),Zoning Board member (1977), Mayor (1985-1993) and Chairman of the Crime Initiative Committee (since 1994). He was a member of the American Legion and an active member of the Cornelius Lions Club for over 50 years.
He was a charter member of Cornelius Tabernacle, which later became Grace Covenant Church in Cornelius.
Mr. Little is survived by his wife Annie Ruth and brother Pastor Thomas Little; daughters Kathy Burch and husband Mickey, Vickie McGinnis and husband Ronny; son David Little and wife Shelley, all of Cornelius. Grandchildren; Pat and Brittany Burch, Mark McGinnis, Matt McGinnis and wife Jennifer and Logan Little. Great grandchildren are Emma & Luke Burch.
He was preceded in death by his brothers Joe and LaVerne Little.
Grace Covenant Church will be the location for visitation as well as the funeral service. The family will receive friends on Friday, July 1 from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 2 followed by interment at Mt. Zion Community Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Town of Cornelius, Attn: Cornelius Veterans Monument Fund.
Pallbearers are members of the Cornelius and Mooresville police departments.
