Harvey Lee Willyard's Obituary
Harvey Lee "Mickey" Willyard, Jr., 72 of Charlotte went into the loving arms of Jesus November 4, 2020. He was born on June 25, 1948 in Mecklenburg County to the late Harvey and Alice Willyard.
He served his country in the US Army. Mickey grew up in Charlotte and in the late 60’s. He was working with the Charlotte Checkers when he received his orders to serve his country. He went on to be a paratrooper in the Army. Upon his return to Charlotte he soon started his lifelong career in the food industry. He was at Slugs Ribs during its early years. Most of his career was spent though in the nursing home industry, ensuring those living out the December of their lives experienced a caring environment. One of Mickey’s qualities was his insatiable desire to learn all he could about Charlotte, the city he grew up in. He could recount many stories of what this huge city was like in the 60’s and 70’s. He was living his dream when he was camping with his family and dogs. On those trips he would go fishing and hiking. The family loved when he came back with what was his last big fishing trip and hosted a fish fry that the family still talks about.
He leaves behind his Susan, the girl he waited 50 yrs for, the children he grew to love and cherish and helped to shape into the kind and caring adults they are today, step-son Joe Helms and (wife Julianna) of Ft, Mill SC and step-daughter Jenna Tench ( husband Tom) of Clyde NC.
