Prof. Heinz H. Schreiber's Obituary
Prof. Heinz H. Schreiber, PhD
January 31, 1932 – January 14, 2024
"That a man may eat and drink and derive satisfaction from his work -this I saw is a gift from God."
It is with sadness, our family announces the passing of our beloved Father, Grandfather, Husband, Brother, Uncle, Colleague and Friend, Heinz.
Heinz was born on January 31, 1932, the eldest and first-born son of German immigrants, in Richmond Hill, NY. He is survived by his two daughters, Herta and spouse Mark, and Margo, his two younger sisters Margaret and Martha, Nieces, Nephews and two most precious granddaughters, Ashley and Chelsea, that he adored.
A true scholar and lifelong learner, Heinz earned his Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from City College in NY, his Masters Degree in Applied Mathematics from Adelphi University, and in 1972, earned his Doctorate in Electrical Engineering from the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn.
Heinz had an exceptional life that he shared for 69 years with his beloved Gloria, who preceded him in death on September 11, 2023. We know they are dancing once again to the beautiful Strauss Waltzes they both loved so much! Heinz also enjoyed sailing, skiing, and golfing, which was a sport shared with Gloria during their life in Florida. He also enjoyed good food, fine wine and time spent with friends.
Heinz had a long and successful career in Electrical Engineering, and worked for Northrop Grumman for many years, where he was an active contributor to the Joint Stars program. His expertise in Cosite Communication was in high demand and he was well respected and sought after to keep contributing, even after he ‘retired’ – many times. He also is a published author of technical journals in Cosite Communications – we like to think he was truly one of the ‘Space Cowboys’ – but on the ground and behind the scenes!
His true passion, however, was his desire to teach and mentor, and he fulfilled this goal over the years, teaching at the State University of New York, Stony Brook, as an Adjunct Professor, and at The Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne, FL. He also took great pride in mentoring many of the younger Engineers throughout his career.
His best achievement was loving and caring for his family. A devoted husband and father who will be greatly missed – especially his wit, sense of humor and his ability to have the most interesting conversations and views on many topics.
Internment services are being planned to take place in Queens, NY in the Spring to bring Heinz and Gloria to their final resting place.
The family requests donations in their memory be made to Hospice Via Health Partners Lake Norman,705 Griffith Street, Suite 203, Davidson, NC 28036 or online at https://www.viagiving.org/
