Helen Kidd's Obituary
Helen Frazier Kidd, 91, of the Rockin K. Ranch on Miranda Road, Charlotte, NC, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday evening, May 8, 2016. Her entire family had spent Mother’s Day with her and she was at peace with her Lord and her family.
Helen was born on November 8, 1924 and was the high school sweetheart and loving wife of former Mecklenburg County Sheriff, C.W. Kidd Jr. The Kidd family has deep roots in the Long Creek community. The Rockin’ K Ranch, started by C.W. Kidd and Helen Kidd, has served as the host site of countless rodeos, BBQ’s, Fish Fry’s, political fundraisers, weddings and family celebrations. Helen was most proud of being the owner and operator of the Mecklenburg Abattoir. Helen and her family worked side-by-side providing fresh beef and pork cuts, which was the key to a good BBQ.
Helen was the matriarch and the “rock of the family,” always working behind the scenes and always with a smile on her face. Helen raised not only her own children, but guided the hundreds of others teens and young adults that spent time at her family’s ranch. Helen imparted wisdom and made every person feel special. She expected your best and she had a knack for a tough word or two of advice when it was most needed.
Helen served her church, Trinity United Methodist Church on Beatties Ford Rd., in whatever capacity she was needed. She often hosted Senior church groups at her home or trips to the family-owned, Rockin’ K. Motel in North Myrtle Beach, SC. The memories made on beach trips with friends, family or her church family, cannot be under-stated. There was always the presence of laughter, her beautiful voice singing Gospel music, and her good home cookin.’
Helen will be missed by her many, many friends and a family that adored her for the love she provided to them each day. She was a precious mother, grandmother, and friend to anyone that knew her and she has now joined the love of her life and “her Sheriff” in heaven.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband C.W. Kidd, Jr., son C.W. “Buddy” Kidd III. She is survived by her daughter, Vicki Kidd Tucker (husband Scott), Son Jerry Kidd, Son Larry Kidd (wife Teresa), Nine Grand-children (Jami Kidd, C.W. Kidd IV “Chet,” Amie Kidd Carroll, Keri Tucker Futrell, Jason Tucker, Amanda Kidd, Curt Kidd, Danielle Kidd and Cheyenne Kidd. Helen had 19 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great Great Grandchild. She is also survived by life-long friend, Doris Wilson.
The funeral will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church on Wednesday May 11th at 3:00 p.m. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will thereafter receive friends in the Family Life Center. Reverend Wade Ogle and Reverend Jimmy Howard will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Trinity United Methodist Church, 6230 Beatties Ford Road, Charlotte, NC 28216.
