Helen O. Styers' Obituary
Mrs. Helen Osborne Styers, 92, of The Pines at Davidson, passed away after a period of extended illness on March 17, 2015. A native of Mecklenburg County, she was the daughter of the late John Robert and Lacy Rogers Osborne. She retired from the US Post Office in 1987. Helen also wrote the Huntersville News for the Mecklenburg Gazette from 1955 to 1963. The articles can be found in the Carolina Room at the Charlotte main branch Library. Minus four years at Cary First Baptist and Oak Island Baptist, she has been a member of First Baptist Huntersville since 1933. Helen graduated Salutatorian from Huntersville High School Class of 1939. She also attended Kings College – Charlotte.
Helen is survived by sons, David (Ellen) of Kannapolis, NC, Steve (Beverly) of Denver, NC, John (Jennie) of Holden Beach, NC, daughters, Robin Inman (Al) of Fuquay Varina, NC, Carla Kerner (Tom) of Richmond, VA and eight grandchildren and one great grandchild. In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her husband of fifty years, Jap Otis Styers.
A service to celebrate Helen’s life will be held Friday, March 20, 2015 at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church, Huntersville with the Rev. Tina Burleson and the Rev. Eddie Haigler presiding. Interment will be private, prior to the service. Family will receive friends immediately after the service.
