Helen Pennell's Obituary
Helen Annie Lee Smith Pennell of Charlotte, NC, born July 14, 1934 graduated to be with the Lord on June 28 at the age of 79. She is the daughter of the late Leonard Oscar Smith and Cleo Bowman Smith of Taylorsville. She is preceded in death by brothers, Devon Smith, Grady Smith and David Lee Smith.
She retired from Herff Jones, Charlotte, in 2003 after 38 years of service. She has been a member of Statesville Road Baptist Church since 1960.
Surviving is her dedicated and loving husband of over 60 years, Robert “Hayden” Pennell; son, Curtis Pennell; daughters Kay Pennell Ostwalt (Smitty), Tina Pennell Courtney (John). Her loving grandchildren are Maggie, Jacqueline, and Victoria Ostwalt, Haley and Daniel Courtney. Surviving siblings are Shirley Sherrill, Frank Smith and Bobby Smith.
The family requests memorials may be made to the Statesville Road Baptist Church or the Alzheimer’s Association in lieu of flowers.
The funeral service will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, July 1 at Statesville Road Baptist Church with Rev. Dale Shields officiating. Visitaiton will be 10-11 prior and burial will follow at Charlotte Memorial Gardens.
