Herman Schumacher's Obituary
Herman Edward Schumacher, Col. (Ret.), 88, of Huntersville, NC died March 4, 2016. Ed was born on February 12, 1928 in Bloomington, IL in McLean Co. to the late Herman August “Gus” and Nellie Fielder Schumacher. He graduated from Illinois State University and retired as a colonel from the USAF after 26 years of service. Ed retired from his second career after 15 years with Kerr-McGee Corporation as Vice-President of Sales and Services for the coal division. Ed was most proud of his service in the Air Force.
He was a member of Lake Norman Lutheran Church, in Denver, NC.
Survivors include his wife June Schumacher; daughter, Jean Gilreath (Mark) of Huntersville; sons, Kurt (Greta) of Southlake, TX, Mark (Montana) of Gillette, WY, and K. Michael (Shari) of Amarillo, TX; sister, Laura Garrett of Bloomington, IL; 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Air Force Association, The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, or Hospice & Palliative Care of the Charlotte Region.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, March 13 in the chapel of James Funeral Home with Rev. Jeff Marquardt officiating. A reception will follow in the James Funeral Home Community Room. The disposition of ashes will be placed to rest in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, TX with full military honors.
