Herminia Bennett's Obituary
Herminia Theodora Bennett-Patterson, 84, joined her husband and son in Heaven on March 20, 2019.
Herminia was born March 5, 1935 in Limon, Costa Rica to Espy Patterson and Samuel Campbell. She immigrated to the United States in 1962 as a nanny. In the bustling city of New York year 1964, she met and married her husband of 42 years, Stanley S. Bennett. It was then that they began to build their family.
Herminia started her career as a Home Health aide in Brooklyn, NY and she retired as a certified nursing assistant from a state nursing facility in 1997.
In 1983, Herminia and Stanley opened their home and became foster parents. For 12 years many lives were touched and transformed. In 2006, they moved to North Carolina to be closer with their daughters and their grandchildren. Herminia, the second oldest of seven children, is survived by her siblings; Delores, Luis, Leonardo and Beatriz, and nieces and nephews. Her children; SherylAnn, Derrick (deceased), Dennis, Shaylah, Tasia, Shaquil, and Jason. Grandchildren; Icsheme, Arielle, Reese, Ezekiel, Nathan, Jacob, Joshua, Theodora, Gabrielle, Derrick Jr., Mikhail, India, Acelyn, Sayire, and Massiah. Great-grandchildren; Icsheme Jr. and Imayah.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 27 at 10 a.m. with funeral services starting at 11 a.m. at James Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Community Cemetery.
