Howard Erwin Gibbs' Obituary
On March 29, 2018, Howard E. Gibbs arrived at the gates of heaven on time. Howard loved the Lord and frequently shared his faith with others. He loved scripture and was a life-long scholar of the Bible.
A celebration of life service will be held at Bethel Presbyterian Church in Cornelius on Wednesday, April 4, 2018, at 3:00 in the afternoon. The family will receive friends following the service in the Family Life Center.
Born in Birmingham, Al, Mr. Gibbs was the son of the late William LaFayette Gibbs and Frances Irene Dempsey Gibbs. Mr. Gibbs graduated from Phillips High School and from Auburn University with a Bachelor of Science degree in finance and business management. He then served in the United States Marine Corp for seven years. During his career, Mr. Gibbs was a regional sales manager for Helena Rubenstein and Revlon Inc.
As a member of Bethel Presbyterian in Cornelius, Mr. Gibbs taught Sunday School, was a deacon, and was a member of the choir. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge of Birmingham, Alabama and was a Shriner.
In addition to his wife, Dr. Susan Gibbs, Mr. Gibbs is survived by his son, Taylor Gibbs (Corinna) of Union, SC and daughter, Megan McNairy (Wyatt III) of Greensboro, NC; five grandchildren, Mary Katherine Gibbs, Grace McNairy, William Gibbs, Caroline McNairy and Lilly Gibbs.
