J. Scott Smith's Obituary
J. Scott Smith, 50, son of Alice Burchett Sutton and the late Gerald K. Smith, passed away Dec. 24, 2015, following an extended illness.
Scott was born Aug. 14, 1965, in Martinsville, Va. After graduating Martinsville High School, he attended Lynchburg College. A sports enthusiast, Scott earned many bowling trophies and enjoyed playing basketball and varsity tennis. His real passion was marine biology, and he was enthusiastic about sharing this knowledge with others. Following in the tradition of his grandfather, he was an expert fisherman and enjoyed fishing in the coastal waters of South Carolina and Florida.
Scott is survived by his mother, Alice, and stepfather, Robert Sutton, both of Davidson, N.C.; and sister Leigh Ann (Smith) Lemons and brother-in-law Richard Lemons, niece Vivian and nephew Joshua, all of Oakton, Va. He was the grandson of the late Rosa and Silas Burchett of Pulaski, Va.
A private family memorial service was held in the chapel at James Funeral Home in Huntersville, N.C.
