Jack Harold Marshall's Obituary
Jack Harold Marshall, 80, of Charlotte, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, March 18, 2017 after a brief illness. Jack was born September 18, 1936, the tenth child of the late Bessie Bell Marshall and John Marshall in East Spencer, North Carolina. At an early age, his family moved to Charlotte. He attended Tech High School. In 1955, Jack joined the US Navy and served until 1959 aboard the USS Wadleigh, DD689. After his time in the service, he worked in the trucking industry at Johnson Motor Lines and Yellow Freight retiring in August, 1992. After his retirement, Jack worked for Charlotte Motor Speedway and Parking Unlimited. At the time of his death, he was the Commander of American Legion Post 345 in Derita, a member of AmVets Post 460 in Salisbury and of Tin Can Sailors. Jack was an active volunteer, most recently with Richard’s Coffee Shop for Veterans in Mooresville, NC. He also volunteered with the Asbury Deli at Asbury UMC, Huntersville. He attended the Tech High Lunch Bunch. Since 1989 Jack had not missed a reunion of his beloved ship. He had a love for the Ford Mustang automobile and was known as The Mustang Man.
Jack is survived by his wife of 24 years, Peggy Puckett, two daughters; Lisa Moore and Tracy Partridge, three grandchildren; Daine Marshall (Amanda), Justin Detter (Christy), Jessica Graham (Tyler), and 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Joanne Lipe Marshall and his 9 brothers and sisters.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 21 from 12:30 p.m. until 2 p.m. with a celebration of his life beginning at 2:00 p.m. all at Asbury United Methodist Church with Rev. Jimmy Howard officiating. Burial will follow at Sharon Memorial Park.
