Jacob Koury's Obituary
Jacob Dean Koury, 23, of Cornelius, North Carolina went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 11, 2021. Jacob was born on September 3, 1997 in Louisville, Kentucky. He was a gift from God to his parents Joseph Koury II and Karen Townsend Koury of Huntersville.
Jacob and his parents moved from Louisville to Huntersville when he was 3 years old. He grew up in Huntersville and graduated from Hopewell High School in 2015. He graduated from Liberty University in December 2019 with a degree in Criminal Justice.
Jacob was a bright light to those who knew and loved him. He came to know the Lord through Sunday school and Upward Basketball at Lake Norman Baptist Church. He was baptized on March 9, 2008. Jacob hid God’s Word in his heart through many years of participation in AWANA. He was a current member of Neighborhood Church and a member of the church Praise Team. Jacob was a gifted musician; he played the upright bass, electric bass and loved to sing Southern Gospel music. He was also a member of the Magnify Choir in Cornelius. From an early age, Jacob was fascinated with cars and over the past few years he learned to detail vehicles and boats. He enjoyed swing dancing and loved to attend dances.
Jacob never met a stranger; when you met Jacob he had the ability to make you feel like you had known him forever. He would do anything to help others and had a special place in his heart for older people and those with disabilities. Jacob was passionate about his country and was very patriotic. While in high school he was a member of Hopewell’s JROTC Drill Team and became a co-commander of the Drill Team, competing as far away as Daytona Beach, Florida. At the time of his death, Jacob was working as a car detailer at Keffer Mazda in Huntersville and at Target in the electronics department.
Jacob was preceded in death by his grandfather James Bowen Townsend, his grandmother Wilma Surratt Koury, and his grandfather Thomas Fuqua. In addition to his parents, Jacob is survived by his sister Amanda Koury of Huntersville, his grandfather Joseph Koury of Greensboro, his grandmother Jean Whitley Fuqua of Greensboro, his grandmother Patricia Wylie Townsend of Julian, his aunt Karen Koury of Lewis Center, Ohio, his uncle Greg Townsend (Tamara) of Beavercreek, Ohio, and his uncle Brian Kaisinger (Inés) of Julian, and seven cousins.
