Jacob Watson's Obituary
Jacob Randolph Watson, 18, of Davidson went to be with the Lord on January 9, 2020. Jacob was born in Mecklenburg County on April 6, 2001 to Bruce and Lydia Watson.
Jacob was a senior at Hough High School. Previously, Jacob was a student at SouthLake Christian Academy. He was an actively attending member of Southlake Presbyterian Church in America where he helped run the sound booth during the worship service. Jacob’s God given paternal love enabled him to serve at Doe River Gorge Christian Camp and as a child care and art assistant at Lake Forest Church. Jacob commented, “The interaction with the kids we served at this camp was a great learning experience. I expected them to mostly learn from me, but they taught me to live with joy and never let life pull you down.” He also said, ”Helping in child care taught me how much joy a baby can bring to your life even if your time with them is limited.” In addition, he also enjoyed serving elderly people at Widows Watchmen Ministries in South Carolina. For several years he served in a weeklong summer VBS camp at Brookstone School in Charlotte, NC. In the last months of his life he served his Pop Pop (Pete Nicas) in his dying days. He never sought recognition for visiting him frequently, often alone, and without being asked to go. Many say Jacob sought out and sat with the lonely in the Hough High cafeteria. Jacob was a self-instructed expert marksman and proficient calisthenics athlete. He was a gentle and patient teacher as he coached many in marksmanship, health and calisthenic training. He was a loyal, devoted and self-sacrificing friend. He was a giver and a lover. He was loyal and fully devoted to those he loved. He was known by all for his compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. He forgave quickly and fully. He was best known especially by his mom, dad, sister and brothers for his unceasing overwhelming tender and passionate love. He was our light and we can love God and others because of the unsurpassing love our Lord poured out abundantly through him.
In addition to his parents, survivors include his siblings, Luke, Joshua, Sarah and Jonathan; and his grandmother, Nancy Nicas. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Pete Nicas, Randy Watson, Julie Watson and Susan Watson.
The funeral service will be held at 4PM Tuesday, January 14 at Grace Covenant Church. The service will be officiated by Rev. Dave Kulp, Rev. Lonnie Barnes, Rev. Bruce Brown. Visitation will follow at the church. Burial will be private at Northlake Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Charlotte Rescue Mission or the Community Pregnancy Center of Lake Norman.
