James B. Alexander Jr. "Jimmy"'s Obituary
James Bigham Alexander, Jr. 82 of Davidson died October 4, 2019. He passed peacefully at home after a long battle with COPD and a broken heart after losing his wife Ruby in June.
Jim was born on October 19, 1936 in Charlotte to the late James and Mildred Cashion Alexander. After graduation from N. Mecklenburg High School, he attended Phieffer College where he met his wife to be of almost 60 years, Ruby. Jim owned and operated along with his dad Alexander Trucking Co, served as secretary/treasurer of the Davidson V.F.D., was a member of the Williams Masonic Lodge #176, AF&AM of Cornelius, served on various church boards, was head usher for many years at Davidson U.M.C. Jim enjoyed antique trucks and cars, winning several awards with his own. He enjoyed traveling for work and for pleasure, playing Jepordy with Ruby, fishing at the coast and ice cream Snicker bars. He enjoyed gardening, sitting around the fire department “shooting the bull”, cracking jokes with his friends and spending time with his Alexander and Cashion cousins.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife Ruby and daughter Brenda Alexander Brown. Survivors include his daughter Anne Veleke (Brian), his granddaughter, Brittney Ballard (Rankin), his step-grandchildren, Austin, Lauren, Rachael, Noah and Silas and great-grandchildren, Emerson Grace “Emmy” Dawson and Leo Micah-Kane Havens.
The family would like to thank all of those who came for visits and brought food. Thank you to Teresa Catings, PA with Doctors Making House Calls, to his granddaughter Brittney and her boyfriend Rankin for their T.L.C. of grandpa and their great neighbors, Suzanne and Wilson Sadler, Judy Kidd and John Bramlett.
A funeral service will be held at 2:30 PM Tuesday, October 8 at Davidson U.M.C. Visitation will be 1:30-2:30 prior. Burial will follow at Mimosa Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Davidson U.M.C., St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, or the Davidson V.F.D.
