James Eschinger's Obituary
Mr. James Richard Eschinger, 77, of Charlotte passed away the morning of March 9, 2022
Jim was born in Washington DC, and grew up in Nokesville VA where he attended Osbourn High School in Manassas, Va. He received his undergraduate degree from The Richmond Professional Institute (now VCU) in Richmond, VA and received his Masters from the Rochester School of Technology in Rochester, NY. He spent most of his adult life in Westport, CT and worked at the United Nations as a graphic designer. In 2006 he and his wife Nicki Adler retired to Tucson Arizona where they lived for 15 years. In 2021 Jim moved to the Charlotte area to be closer to family.
Jim was a remarkably handsome man with a zest for life. From his quirky fashion sense to his individualistic artwork, love of good food and love of travel he always went above and beyond and maybe a little over the top. He enjoyed traveling and had a voracious appetite for all types of food especially sweets, his pie-fest at Thanksgiving and voracious appetite for ice-cream and raspados were well known. Some of his more recent travels included Japan, Italy, Hawaii, and The Grand Canyon. While he spent a good portion of his working years commuting into NYC, he made sure his time off was filled to the brim with lots of “Jim” projects, building elaborate gardens, as well as outbuildings in the “back 40” of his farmette in Westport, CT. Known for entertaining in an over the top yet beautifully detailed way, Jim was an excellent cook, a master margarita maker and a welcoming host.
Once he retired and moved to Tucson, he started to focus more intently and seriously on his inventive and sometimes experimental portrait, landscape and street photography as well as his multi-media artwork. His photography was featured in exhibitions, open studio events and also exhibited in the Phoenix airport, he was even a part of a photography trip to Cuba. His photographs were one of his prized possessions and he loved to be asked about his artwork.
Jim robustly enjoyed the Southwestern lifestyle and embraced his inner cowboy to the hilt. He thoroughly enjoyed his time as a Tucson resident.
He was preceded in death by his parents Richard and Lois Eschinger, and brother Garry. Jim is survived by his wife Nicki Adler of Minneapolis, MN, children Chad Eschinger (Debbie) of Gulidford, CT, Sarah Milholland (John) of Huntersville, NC, Stepdaughter Zoe Adler (Bill) of Minneapolis, MN, grandchildren; Ian, Mia, Christopher, Mac, Riley, Maxx and Eli; sister Lois Sisk (Jack) of Richmond, VA, Niece Stephania Muterspaugh (Danny) of Richmond, VA and Great Nephew Bryan Ruff of Richmond, VA.
A private memorial will be held by the family at a later date. Online condolences maybe made a www.jamesfuneralhomelkn.com
