James Hayes' Obituary
James “Jim” Hayes, 79, of Denver, NC, passed away Saturday, December 5, 2015 at his home after a 12 year battle with COPD. Jim was a native of Camden, NY and was an alumnus of the University of Arizona in Tucson, AZ. From approximately 1956-1964, Jim served in the Air National Guard at Hancock Field in Syracuse, NY. Jim was a previous member of Redeemer Evangelical Lutheran Church and retired from Welton Motor Sales Inc., both in Oneida, NY.
Jim was a central New Yorker for most of his life, moving to Denver, NC in 2006 to be closer to family, especially his beloved grandchildren. He enjoyed traveling, music (particularly playing in the Drum and Bugle Corps during his younger years), studying history and was an avid NASCAR fan. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Patrick and Alice Hayes.
In addition to his devoted wife of many years, Donna Moore Newcomb Hayes, Jim is survived by his loving stepsons: Scott Newcomb (Tiffany) of Cornelius, NC; Sean Newcomb (Shannon) of Mooresville, NC and his five wonderful grandchildren: Ryan, Jay, Sara, Sam and Anna Reese Newcomb.
Friends are invited to celebrate Jim’s life at a memorial service to be held on Monday, December 14, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. at his church, Community in Christ Lutheran Church located at 7621 Norman Island Dr., Cornelius with Pastor Travis Norton officiating. A light supper reception will follow in the church fellowship hall.
The family would like to thank the entire staff of Catawba Regional Hospice and the Sherrills Ford Hospice House for all the comfort and care they gave Jim for the last several months of his life.
