James Eldridge King's Obituary
James "Jim" Eldridge King, 85, of Charlotte, died June 22, 2011 at the Levine-Dickson Hospice House. He was born on August 28, 1925 in Charlotte to the late William Edwin King and Myrtle Jones King.
He is survived by his daughters, Leigh Black of Charlotte, Cindy Price and husband Tim of Waxhaw, Susan Osmar of Ft. Mill, SC, and Jan Ivey and husband Marty of Charlotte; brother, W.E. King, Jr. and wife Tricia of Charlotte; grandchildren, Lauren Price, Natalie Price and Timothy Osmar. Mr. King was married twice; first in 1948, to the mother of his four daughters, Sarah Jones King of Charlotte, and later in life to Betty Jean Gowan-King.
He graduated from Central High School in 1943 and after serving as a staff sergeant in the Army Air Corp, he then went on to study at NC State University. Later he worked with his father in the family business, F & R Coal & Oil Co., until he retired. Mr. King had many hobbies and interests including; boating, coin collecting, motorcycles, woodworking, Native American folklore, and dancing. He was also a hunter and an avid gun enthusiast. He was a founding member of the Charlotte Rifle & Pistol Club, lifetime NRA member and instructor, Member of Temple Lodge 676, the Scottish Rite, York Rite and the Red Fez Club. Recently he became an honorary member of the SC State Guard.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, June 25th at Central Steele Creek Presbyterian Church with Rev. Luke Maybry officiating. Visitation will follow at the church. A private burial will be held at Forest Lawn West.
