James Luther Ott's Obituary
James “Jim” Luther Ott, 60, of Cornelius, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on February 23, 2024, after a courageous and tenacious four year battle with colon cancer.
Jim was born in Salina, Kansas to Thomas and Carolyn Ott on January 21, 1964. He was raised on Merritt Island, Fl., where his love of water drew him to become a skilled scuba diving instructor. He attended the University of Central Florida and graduated with a Masters of Science in accounting and became a C.P.A. He was an accomplished senior executive with 35 years in the financial services industry beginning his career in Orlando, Fl., before moving on to North Carolina, Virginia, Washington DC, and finally returning to North Carolina, working for Wells Fargo in Charlotte. He was engaged and driven in his work, always grateful for the rewarding opportunities and life long friends that were presented to him throughout his career.
Jim reveled in the happiness he found with his lovely wife, Charlotte and their wonderful daughter, Chloe. He was the favorite dad among Chloe's friends and delighted in offering counsel when ever asked. Jim was a dog lover, birdwatcher, avid photographer, Formula 1 fan, and ardent traveler to all parts of the world. He was a kind, gregarious soul and dedicated friend filled with optimism, compassion, and disarming humor. But in the end, Jim was most proud of being a marvelous father and a devoted husband. His family has tremendous gratitude for the glorious memories he created that will last a lifetime.
He is survived by his loving wife, Charlotte, and their beloved daughter, Chloe; his loving parents, Thomas and Carolyn Ott; his brother, David Ott, and his immediate family; his sister, Col. Susan Moran, and her immediate family.
In lieu of flowers, Jim and his family request that you please help free the world from colon cancer. Please start regular screenings for colorectal cancer at the age of 45 as prescribed by the American Cancer Society. Please consult your doctor to determine if you have an increased or high risk of colorectal cancer. Please do not hesitate, the life you save will be yours.
A memorial service in County Kerry, Ireland will be planned for a future date.
James Funeral Home of Huntersville is serving the family.
