James Clarence Outten Jr.'s Obituary
James Clarence Outten, Jr., of Charlotte, died Friday, January 24, 2020 at the home of John and Ann Gillette. He was born on April 12, 1954 in Chicago, IL. He graduated from Westinghouse High School and Dervy University College with an Associates Degree. James worked in office machine maintenance and repair, most recently for CRG at Lowes, Inc. in Mooresville.
James was predeceased by his wife, Lena Mae Davis Outten, his son, James Outten, III, his sister, Silena C. Outten, his mother, Eleanor Lorraine Outten, and father, James Clarence Outten. He is survived by his aunts Ruth O. Godwin, Dolores O. Brooks, Rachel O. Bennett, and Margaret O. Kidd and a host of friends and extended family that love him and will miss him greatly.
In 2015 James moved from Chicago to Charlotte. In December 2016, James connected with CrossWay Community Church where he befriended many and left a great impact with his bright smile, genuine interest in others, and upbeat attitude.
James was full of life, constantly cheerful, uncomplaining, perseverant, and a man with whom people were immediately drawn. He enjoyed watching movies, going for drives in his car, staying physically active, any social gatherings, visits to the library, watching ball games, and on the weekends spending time with his friend Reggie.
After many years of valiantly fighting cancer James passed away peacefully at the beginning of 2020. Friends remember his hold on life and how he fought hard to the end.
James regularly expressed his deep appreciation and gratitude for the love and care shown to him by his friends, church family, his co-workers at CRG, and the teams at Hospice and Levine Cancer Institute. He said that after losing all his immediate family members, he prayed for a family that could care for him when his final days came. He was grateful to God for answering his prayer.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Crossway Community Church, 6400 Prosperity Church Road, Charlotte, NC 28269, on Sunday, February 16 at 2:00 PM. Pastor Joe Lechner will officiate.
