James Paul Adams' Obituary
James Paul Adams, 91 passed away Sunday, February 12, 2017 at Autumn Care in Cornelius, North Carolina. Jim had been a resident of Mooresville for almost 17 years and a member of the Mooresville Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church.
Jim was born February 24, 1925 in Bellaire Ohio. He was the oldest of 3 children born to the late Carl Adams and Anna D. Adams. After graduating from Bellaire High School in 1943, Jim served in the Army. Back from WWII, the Army wanted to send him to West Point, but he graduated Magna Cum Laude from Marietta University in 2 ½ years with a double major as a Chemical engineer.
In 1950, he married the love of his life, Geneva Roxie Reed, and enjoyed a wonderful 67 years of marriage.
His career in chemical engineering provided Jim & his family the opportunity to live in many different states including employment in Ashtabula Ohio, Baton Rouge Louisiana, Cornelius North Carolina (Reeves Brothers), Morganton West Virginia (West Virginia University) & Cambridge Ohio (NCR) prior to his retirement.
Sharing a love of golf with Geneva, they were members of the Statesville Country Club (Statesville, NC), Cambridge County Club (Cambridge, OH) and Mooresville Golf Course (Mooresville, NC). During his retirement, Jim served as a Guardian Ad Litem for Iredell County; Jim also served on the Board of Directors for Samaritans International in Mooresville, NC. Jim and Geneva were beloved members of MARP church for many years, serving as Deacons and in different volunteer capacities throughout their time as members.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva R. Adams and his sister, Jean Adams Puzzouli. He is survived by his Four children James R. Adams of Mooresville NC, Patte Ray Hobbs (Monte) of Mooresville NC & Fremont CA, Lynell A. McDowell (Joe) of Greenville NC and Joni B. Mertz of Fort Wright KY. Sister Janice Dennis (Ron) of Cambridge OH; sister-in-law Nira Howell (John) of Shadyside OH; brother-in-law William Reed of Columbus OH; eight grandchildren Boone (Erica), Jesse (John) Tyler, Brittany, Adam, Geoff, Katie, A.J.; four great-grandchildren Maddie, Alba, Mateo, and Christian. He will be sorely missed by many extended family members and friends.
A memorial service for family and friends is scheduled for Saturday March 18, 2017 2:00 PM at Mooresville Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, 659 Carpenter Ave, Mooresville, NC 28115. A reception will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to Samaritans International, 107 Sailview Rd, Mooresville, NC 28117 or Mooresville Associated Reformed Presbyterian Church, 659 Carpenter Avenue, Mooresville, NC 28115.
